The Scheme:
The scheme consisted of providing a new base for the Lightning Fast Jet home defence HQ at the RAF base in Marham, Norfolk. The state-of-the-art facilities provided under the scheme for BAE systems included; a new maintenance and finishes hangar, Logistics Operations Centre and an Integrated Training Centre.
Our Role:
Our role consisted of designing the fire detection and protection systems from conceptual design through to detailed design, using fully hydraulically calculated pipework to ensure the clinical integration of the services into the space critical building envelopes.The hangar area was protected using an automatic pre-action roof level only foam system, actuated by the coincidence of flame detection and aspirating smoke detection, and large capacity foam hose reels for use by the RAF fire-fighting team. Significant areas of the ITC and LOC were protected using directional valve gaseous suppression systems, combining the gas storage for use in multiple spaces and N+1 gas cylinder storage.
