The Scheme:
The scheme covers a 31 hectare site and involves creating amodern and revitalised heart of the capital, rooted in Arabic and Islamic traditions. The objective is to create an urbane and sophisticated city core which will be attractive to the Qatari citizens. This is to be achieved through physical transformation of the urban form, landscape, land use and infrastructure.
Our Role:
The role consisted of the responsibility for the design of all the fire protection systems for Phase 3 of this development. Phase 3 is a large mixed use city quarter comprising fourteen buildings including apartments, shops, restaurants, offices and a hotel. The fire protection systems for all these buildings were designed in accordance with NFPA 13, 20, 22 and 1142 in addition to the requirements of Qatar Civil Defence who are the Authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
Challenges & Collaboration:
The biggest challenge the company faced was to fully appreciate the complex logistical challenge associated with such a large scale development whilst working as part of a multi-disciplined design team. The company produced in excess of 500 drawings from our original concept to Tender Package issue, including specifications and full hydraulic calculations for each building.
