The scheme consists of a new architecturally sensitive junior school being constructedfor Dorset County Council’s Education Department. The initial use for the building however, will be to act as an administration and operations centre for the Olympics 2012 sailing events, being partly modified after the games for its long term purpose as a junior school.
The role consisted of providing a detailed design for the school fire fighting sprinkler systems, carefully co-ordinated with architectural detailing and building services systems, managing the technical aspects of the contractors’ appointments and technically supervising the installation works. The company completed the detailed design and deliverables included a full set of co-ordinated CAD design drawings and written specification document. The company also attended design meetings and contractors’ interviews at the client’s offices and on site on a regular basis to review the installation works.
The challenges involved with this scheme were the close design control required to satisfy the client’s own in-house Architects’ Department, working with the framework contractors, value engineering the product and ensuring that the correct interfaces were provided between the various systems. Working closely with the in-house Dorset County team of architects and engineers, the scheme design was completed successfully and to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
The company were required to work closely within the Council’s own sustainability andenvironmental policy, bringing ideas to the table and taking guidance from the appointed specialists.
